Hi Mike,
No offense taken. IMHO, I think we should just be thankful there is enough
room in the amateur service and ranks to accommodate what each of us enjoy,
building amps, providing emergency communications, operating CW on low power
minimal transceivers, boat anchors, eme, jt65, there is room for us all.
One thing I have found is that what I enjoy today, I may not enjoy as much down
the road, conversely, some facet I only marginally experienced, I may wish and
choose to explore in some future. The same is true for our ranks which have
joined primarily for emergency communications. It wasn't so long ago that
there were many clergy as well as blue water sailors which earned amateur radio
licenses, primarily to operate in remote areas, jungles, islands, the open
water. They didn't have a goal of building, but of providing communications.
I'm quite sure they were not thought of as second class citizens, simply that
their goals and interests were different than ours are.
One day though, they may return, or their focus on emcom may change, and
wouldn't it be nice to welcome them to the ranks of builders? Only a positive
attitude will provide that path for them.
