"Still, those "political" issues are separate from the technology
questions."

Best statement of the day, Joe.

Hams are INNOVATORS. It seems if a technology innovation is perceived as a
threat,
everyone has a fit. I guess it's human nature.

People want contest rulings on remote operation. Those rulings have
already been clearly stated. Nay sayers don't like the answer, so now they
want to nit pick (as to what constitutes a remote control panel).

The TS-480 remote head interface is a TTL-level RS-232 interface. It just
took some innovative hams to come up with a way to remote the control head
over the internet. How cool is that? The look and feel of your radio in
the hotel room? To me, this is the holy grail of "remote" operation, and
I'm hoping the manufacturers are paying attention.

Remote operation is possible, and has been possible, and has been used for a
good deal of time already. Now that bandwidth is becoming more readily
available, it is becoming possible to be competitive as a remote contest
station.

Eric is truly pushing the envelope in trying to develop an SO2R remote
solution which is competitive. Let's not squelch his effort due to fear of
the unknown/perception of "fairness".
