I would suggest that for an experienced CW operator, working CW mobile
in motion is *safer* than working phone.
The Morse key can safely sit on the passenger seat, where it doesn't
obstruct your vision, and it's already out of the way if you have to
suddenly stop transmitting to respond to an unexpected situation on
the road. On phone, you have to hold the mike in front of your face.
I suppose VOX and a lapel mike would tip it back in favor of phone,
provided your vehicle is quiet enough for VOX to work.
Either way, the real safety issue is logging.
Some TCGers have taken to recording the contest on a digital recorder.
Makes for a heck of a transcription project after the contest, but
it's a lot safer than trying to write while driving!
