Well, lets consider the 'code'
"CONSIDERATE...never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the
pleasure of others."
I help those who would lessen the pleasure of others to see the error of
their ways by providing quick feedback on inconsiderate practices.
"LOYAL...offers loyalty, encouragement and support to other amateurs, local
clubs, and the American Radio Relay League, through which Amateur Radio in
the United States is represented nationally and internationally. "
I loyally support the efforts of other amateurs by supporting and
encouraging operating within the rules and best practices on the air.
"PROGRESSIVE...with knowledge abreast of science, a well-built and efficient
station and operation above reproach. "
I use my knowledge about the science of network communications to help
improve the efficiency of the network for all and to keep contest operating
above reproach.
"FRIENDLY...slow and patient operating when requested; friendly advice and
counsel to the beginner; kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration
for the interests of others. These are the hallmarks of the amateur spirit."
I have to be patient to have been doing this for so long and still keep at
it. I provide counsel for beginners by pointing out their errors in an
unbiased way and provide, hopefully, friendly advice for those who have seen
the error of their ways.
"BALANCED...radio is an avocation, never interfering with duties owed to
family, job, school or community. "
I think its an avocation, I wonder about some others who fixate on the
details.
"PATRIOTIC...station and skill always ready for service to country and
community. "
I sure don't do this for self gratification, I do it to help us as a
community. It doesn't do anyone any good to ignore unethical practices or
hope that someone else will take action on them. Its better for our whole
community if we use peer pressure early to correct bad practices than to let
them go on for a year or longer before giving punitive correction.
