Seems to me that maybe what's needed is a rule that prohibits a SO
Unassisted from having any internet connection.
After all, if you are in a contest as SO Unassisted, what the heck do you
need the internet for?

It doesn't matter if all the single ops leave off the band breakdowns.
The same opening notifications and more will be available by looking at
the multi-operator categories - particularly M/M.
As it grows the number of instances of call sign fills for the guys you
couldn't quite copy on 160 will become more prevalent....and using all
that information is now allowed.
Get Scores will tell you however often it is chosen to update on what band
a particular station is running. There are no frequencies shown and that
has been determined to be OK. How about adding all the stations from RBN
calling CQ but without frequencies (just bands) shown? Not a lot
different than what you would have if everyone signed up for Get Scores.
Let's face the facts. You need to be on the Internet and take advantage of
any and all internet assistance that is now allowed to maximize your
success in a single operator, "unassisted" entry. Someone who does not
have a computer connected to the Internet does not have all the possible
advantages of someone who does have that connection in an unassisted
entry.

There is no doubt that the score posting system could provide valuable
information to the single-op, unassisted, serious competitor. Last
weekend's ARRL DX CW is a perfect example. N2IC(/5) and K5GN were both
SOAB
HP, vying for the top spot in W5, and top-10 national positions. Neither
of
us posted to, or watched the score posting sites, even though there is
nothing in the rules to stop us. However, for the sake of discussion,
let's
say K5GN posted his score, with band breakdowns, and N2IC was observing
the
score posting site. During the actual contest, K5GN did indeed catch
good
European openings on 20 meters during the wee hours of the morning, both
mornings. N2IC did not, and in fact, didn't look for those openings.
K5GN
made many more 20 meter QSO's, and finished ahead of N2IC. If N2IC
could,
at a glance, see that K5GN was suddenly piling on 20 meter QSO's at
strange
times of the day, do you think he would react to that information ?
Would
he still be a "player" ? Would he still be unassisted ?
