It’s not a bad example at all. We are discussing the REMOVAL of points for
operating shortcomings, not for rules violations.
If I transpose letters in a call sign, that is an operating shortcoming, just
like missing an easy field goal.
I get no points for the attempted Q, the kicker gets no points for the
attempted FG. Next play.

Keeping the American football analogy going, you won't see points removed for
