From the rules:
"*1. Classic Operator (CLASSIC):*The entrant will use only one radio, no
QSO alerting assistance, and may operate up to 24 of the 48 hours –*off
times are a minimum of 60 minutes during which no QSO is logged.*If the
log shows more than 24 hours of operation, only the first 24 hours will
be counted for the overlay score. The one radio must not be able to
receive while transmitting."

So, Pete, it's just SOA, HP or LP or QRP, for the first 24-hours logged,
with 60-min off times, right?
How about SO2R? I know you said you weren't going to operate SO2R, but it's
allowed in your contest within a contest, right?
If so, I like that.

Subject: Re: [CQ-Contest] Entry Class -- CQWW Classic Overlay As It Should
Be
The original idea, as championed by VE5ZX and I, back in the oughts, was to
have a 24-hour category with, otherwise, the same rulesas the 48-hour
contest. This got transmuted in the CQWW Committee to what you see before
you now, and the "Classic" name was also their invention. I offered my
explanation of why they probably did it at the start of this thread - not
based on inside information, but simple extrapolation from the way this same
group jumped on our idea a decade ago.

I thought the whole idea 'Classic' class was to go back to 'Just a boy
and his radio' type of contesting with no spotting, etc.
Why have the classic and then just have the same rules as the regular
contest, only for 24 hours? 73 Tom W7WHY

I agree with Pete. Being one of those advocates along with Pete and
others who have advocated for this class for the e past decade I
completely agree that the Classic should be changed to eliminate
these restrictions.
The reason I didn't enter this category last year after working to
get such a category was strickly because assisted was not allowed.
The idea of the 24-hour challenge was to increase participation by
providing a class that didn't have any restrictions to encourage
others to participate anyway they could even if it was for a
restricted 24-hr period.
