ChatGPT still has lots of flaws, but in my opinion it has become the best search engine out there.  I use it a lot for some things (not at all for others), and it has rarely been wrong for me for digging up information.  Its efficiency has gotten to the point where when I ask it a question, it actually anticipates related questions and gives me information I didn't ask for ... but found useful.

Convoluting its performance as a search engine with scoring in a contest is just silly.

p.s.  I only quoted ChatGPT for the information so that I didn't pretend to be more knowledgeable than I am.

With all due respect Dave, until we see ChatGPT place in the top 100 of a section for a given contest, be it SS or anything else, I'd take it's suggestions on software installations with a grain of salt.  A grain about the size of the iceberg that the Titanic hit...

ChatGPT says that the most straightforward way to do what your friend
wants to do is to install a full Linux on the Chromebook (can be done
via a USB stick) and use something like N1MM+ (which can be run under
Linux), assuming his Chromebook is new enough to have a usable USB port
for the rig control.

ChatGPT also says, though, that Chromebooks are notoriously RF noisy and
the setup may require ferrites on all the cables.

Just a thought ...

Apparently there are web-based loggers out there as an alternative, but
not necessarily with rig control.
