Years (actually decades ago) ago when I had numerous tanks of exotic tropical 
fresh water fish, I used Superior tank heaters and never had a problem.  Some 
of the cheap heaters generate noise when they make and break contact 
(buzzzzz-it).  I don't know about the newest, how they are made or the design.
