Gary, you are fortunate!  ALL of the CM's I've worked with take free reign
on removing "useless" components and making substitutions where cost can be
reduced.  Their prime job is to take a design and drop the cost.  That's
one way - primary - they make their take.  You are, indeed, fortunate and
clearly not based in China!!!
