It is almost always a bad idea to try to re-engineer a product,
especially one that is badly designed, as this one clearly is. NK7Z and
W0LEV have the right ideas.
The only thing I would do other than what they suggest is to break the
AC feed to it and add a well-designed common mode choke. The 2-stage
choke that W6GJB and I designed for use on Honda generators would be a
