Hi Ed (K3IXD),
Thanks for the explanation, and yes, I can indeed now see why it is there.

off. While CQing spots are not automatically generated. Secondly, I
turn it on to help others, especially my club members. Third, I
appreciate the spots while I am running. Fourth, it helps promote
RTTY activity. And fifth, it takes too much time to manually spot contacts."

However, if we were going to give the benefit of doubt to those folk in
contests that appear to spot all they work, but on their run frequency, then
we cannot assume they made a "mistake" and set this option accidentally.
Therefore they could be judged to be "self-spotting", thus breaking the
rules of some contests that specify this is not allowed.
I appreciate your reasons for 3 and 4, but I am not so sure about reason
number 5!
If I understand correctly, the "spot all S&P QSOs" does exactly that. I
personally cannot comprehend any reason for spotting everything I work
whilst in S&P mode - and here is my proviso - in a general RTTY contest, and
yes, I do appreciate your reasoning for doing so.
The fact that it takes time is - to me - a good thing, as it will make me
think about what and who I spot.
With Writelog, it is simply a matter of Ctrl-T and return. No time at all,
and I have the choice.
Some interesting debate on this topic, and quite enlightening to see what
others make of this topic!
Jim AD1C made a very valid point too! If you aren't planning on submitting
an entry, then you can prretty much do what you like!
