I'm not sure that (dropped FIGS) is what happened since it happened  
for the same station (EE3R) each time, and David kept getting QR when  
he asked for a repeat.  Remember that David had mentioned

That is why I asked if the QR came right after a 599 and a SPACE.

The USOS/non-USOS mismatch is consistent with what happened, I believe.

It is because of this that I had added a "strong USOS" to cocoaModem  
that makes the transmission compliant with both USOS receivers and non- 
USOS receivers.  The program can send a <SPACE><LTRS> pair for every  
SPACE character in the buffer.   There is the expense of an extra  
LTRS, but it reduces requests for repeats.   Pick your poison --  
faster or more accurate :-).
