Here's something I've been thinking about for quite a while. I'd like to
hear what you think.
Presently, the practice in pileups is for the DX station to call and
answer on his same frequency, and that leads to problems with jammers
and stations who forget to go split.
What if we had a procedure where the DX calls CQ UP but answers on YOUR
frequency? He would specify an amount of time that he would do this and
then call CQ again on his frequency.
For example, adding a number after CQ would indicate the number of
minutes he is listening and answering. The DX would call CQ5 UP 2-5.
That would mean for five minutes he is listening up 2-5 and will answer
you on your frequency. After five minutes he will go back to his
frequency and call CQ again. He could go back earlier if he runs out of
callers or if he just wants to.
This has three advantages: 1. Immune to jammers on his CQ frequency. 2.
Immune to jammers on your frequency because he is constantly changing
frequency with each station he calls. 3. Immune to stations who forget
to go split, and thus no more UP UP UP from the cops.
When someone makes a spot on a DX cluster they could add QYF 5 to the
spot, indicating Your Frequency for TX and RX for five minute periods.
What do you think? Workable or not? Or is the current mess OK?
