BS! There is a clear difference between calling CQ, QRZ, TEST, etc.
and an exchange. It used to be that software *required* DE to decode
calls buried in noise ... and it may still be the case for some soft-
ware and calls that are not in the "known callsigns" databases. In
any case, DE is only a problem for RTTY contests that use states as
multipliers and that is a relatively small percentage of contests.
If the skimmer algorithms required CQ DE, QRZ DE, TEST DE, RR DE, etc.
that would quickly become the standard again and put an end to the
problems with S&P stations who do not start their macros with CR/LF,
CR, or LF *as recommended*.

CQ<period> requires *four characters* the same as TEST because of the
need to shift to FIGS for the period. If you are going to use "CQ."

is more effective than losing a QSO (or needing to call CQ again)
because someone tunes past and does not hear CQ ... or losing a run
frequency because someone does not hear CQ and assumes you are
leaving it.
The other solution is to put DE back in the CQ messages and trigger
CQ detection *only* when hearing CQ DE W1LID or QRZ DE W1LID, etc.
That will assure that those calls following W1LID CQ without a
leading CR/LF do not trigger the CQ detection.

other than just waiting for the Skimmer folks to figure it out?
I don't use Skimmer myself but I can appreciate it's value. Whether
or not a person uses Skimmer isn't the issue if I understand it
right. It's this thing of Skimmer picking up CQ just in front of a
S&P'ers callsign and then posting that on the cluster as someone's Run
frequency when actually that callsign should only be associated with
the S&P'er. Am I still confused? or just Dense! I Do want to
operate correctly even though I am just a Little Pistol providing
contacts for the Big Boys! I am posting this because there are, no
doubt, lots of others out there reading this who are just too shy to
