The use of "DE" would be a mess, especially for the people living in DE.

If CQ'ing stations want to put the letters CQ at the end of their
CQ message, they should consider changing to "CQ{period}" That is
“CQ.”

CQ<period> requires *four characters* the same as TEST because of the
need to shift to FIGS for the period. If you are going to use "CQ."
there is no advantage over TEST - it takes the same 330 ms longer than
CQ each time.

I'll leave it to the purists to argue whether 1 second for three CQs
is more effective than losing a QSO (or needing to call CQ again)
because someone tunes past and does not hear CQ ... or losing a run
frequency because someone does not hear CQ and assumes you are
leaving it.

The other solution is to put DE back in the CQ messages and trigger
CQ detection *only* when hearing CQ DE W1LID or QRZ DE W1LID, etc.
That will assure that those calls following W1LID CQ without a
leading CR/LF do not trigger the CQ detection.

Alex, VE3NEA, is the guy who writes the Skimmer code.

He has made two postings in this thread, which, if I understand them correctly, are as follows: If CQ'ing stations want to put the letters CQ at the end of their CQ message, they should consider changing to "CQ{period}" That is “CQ.” Alex says the program will ignore that three-character string.

Stations who are S&P’ing should send a CR/LF before their call sign. Alex says that would be helpful.

Alex is also working on other methods to improve the CQ/S&P uncertainty.

Ok - so don't use QRZ - got that - Test is too long - got that too. So, if we don't use CQ and Test is too long, what is the alternative other than just waiting for the Skimmer folks to figure it out? I don't use Skimmer myself but I can appreciate it's value. Whether or not a person uses Skimmer isn't the issue if I understand it right. It's this thing of Skimmer picking up CQ just in front of a S&P'ers callsign and then posting that on the cluster as someone's Run frequency when actually that callsign should only be associated with the S&P'er. Am I still confused? or just Dense! I Do want to operate correctly even though I am just a Little Pistol providing contacts for the Big Boys! I am posting this because there are, no doubt, lots of others out there reading this who are just too shy to say anything. de W4PJW
