I second this Ken. I dearly love my Omni 6+ and won't go over to "the
other side", but sure have had my share of RF problems in the past. One
example is the 301 remote tuning knob. Open it up and look inside-- not
a bypass cap, RF choke or ferrite bead in sight, just that nice 3 foot
curly cord (ANTENNA) waiting to distribute the RF where it doesn't
belong.
If only TT would spend another few bucks on ferrite beads and/or RF
chokes at points of (RF) entry during construction of the radio...
In response to Phil, N7UX, I can offer the following: I am using a 132
foot ladder line fed dipole, and (big surprise) due to differences in
the environment (each leg not being IDENTICAL in relation to its
placement), I have different amounts of RF current flowing in each leg
of the ladder line and thus RF in the shack. What I found to be most
helpful was a "choke balun". These are commercially made devices that
consist of about a foot of big diameter coax (RG-8?) with a dozen or so
ferrite beads placed over the coax. I used one between the rig and amp
(Centurion, of course!) and one choke balun between the amp and tuner.
It was the single most effective thing I did to clean up the RF. Good
luck, keep plugging away and I'm sure you will solve your problem.
