Hi ALL:
Well I would have to spend $500 for SG-230 which is quite a bit for an
old guy, retired, on fixed income and even then I would be limited to 200
Watts max. As you all know as the 11 year cycle goes to h... you need some
power once in awhile.
I got the Jupiter because of DSP, my old JRC JST-145 just was out of
date. What sold me on DSP was the JRC NRD-545DSP that I have on a very long
wire antenna that is separate from my transceiver. That is the most awesome
receiver I have ever operated.
Rather than get all the RF cleaned I would be way ahead of the game just
to use the IC-718 for transmit and the NRD-545 for receive, which by the way
the RF does not affect either one. This is what I've been doing since I sent
the Jupiter in for the ATTN repair. Just turn the volume down on the 718 and
use the 545 then on transmit let the 718 not only key the amp. but mute the
545 at the same time. Has worked very well while the Jupiter was in for
repair. I'm sorta back to when I started in the good ol' days with a
transmitter, a receiver and a piece of wire.
As for the "Value Engineering Features" at $1,185 they could have least
put in some good RF shielding. At least the ICOM must have good shielding
and only sells for $599.95 right now.
Paul at TT gave me the same lecture about RF. I'm at the point where I
must decide whether to keep it or sell it.
Well enough of my complaining.
