I was told by TenTec to contact Heil when I had this problem last year.

My original microphone purchased with my Orion, was replaced by Heil in November 2003 because of the same paint problem. Now the bright shiny new one is starting to show the same problem. So I guess it is not just a one shot problem. The mike is used on a stand but I do PTT using the mike switch.

Since the mike was custom painted for TenTec, I wonder if there is a more durable finish under the black custom paint. I guess I will have to call Heil again. It is not a humidity related problem as I keep the station in a humidity controlled room below about 65% relative humidity even though I live on the wet side of the Big Island.

It seems the microphone is a perfect match for the my Orion. The quality of function of the radio and the microphone are unsurpassed. But the human interface, the radio control software and the Microphone paint, are still a work in progress

"My Orion, with its' Ten Tec/Heil Studio One mike, is less
than one year old. And the paint on the mike body is
coming loose! I have had it in the Heil mike boom for some
time, but the rubber bands have withered and broken, so
have hand held the mike the last few weeks.

I am shocked at what is happening to the paint: it now has
blisters, if a finger nail happens to nick it, off the paint chips,
etc."
