It is actually your brain crying "give me some music" instead of single
breaking tone or 3 kHz limited audio.
My ears have formed LPF with 3 kHz notch of -25 dB after 40+ years of
hamradio even with speaker...
Many cases of early ears ringing are known on keen CW operators.
