Really depends on the kink of noise,

for engine/power line type repetitive noise, i agree, hardware is best i've
seen.

For band noise, the software is good, but for weak signal work, I leave
them both off.

The weak signal performance of the radio really shines. ESpecially in the
160-40 meter range in dealing with high band noise and the signal at the
noise floor, in those cases the Orion will really out do anything, If you
use diversity reception, and a pair of antennas one vertically polorized
and one horizontally polorized, you will be amazed at the improved copy in
your head as you hear the phase shift from one ear to the other, These
signals would be no copy on a single antenna system.
