As I understand -
The Threshold controls the level at which the AGC starts to kick in. If you
have the Threshold set low(er), the AGC kicks in a lot. If you set the
Threshold to a higher number (say 10uv+) the AGC would not kick in as often.
Harder
on the ears perhaps but also less likely to mask a weak signal while
compensating.
However, with the new 1.372 firmware, the AGC is tied into the RF gain
control. You can set the Threshold at a low level and back off the RF gain
control
to effectively raise the level which is required to make the AGC kick in.
Thus, the advice to leave the Threshold setting low and don't touch it. Just
use
the RF Gain control (which is arguably easier than going into the menu system
to reset the Threshold - and suffering through 200 turns of the knob as one
poster put it).
This is all pretty confusing and many of us like the way this part worked in
version 1.371 better. But you cannot pick and chose to install parts of the
firmware upgrades (yet).
