Paul:The Omni VI Plus is a real top notch CW contest radio. I have mine fitted with 1.8 KHz SSB and 500 Hz CW filters in the 9 MHz IF and then 1.8KHz SSB, 500 Hz CW and 250 Hz CW in the 6.3 MHz IF. Outstanding performance! As to computer control, since I am not a contester I've never used it. I do understand that it works well however. Also I use it on several digital modes and it works very well. Try to find a late model one which has the TXCO for the reference. It is more stable and better long term frequency accuracy. 73 Bob, K4TAX----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul DeWitte K9OT" <k9ot@mhtc.net> To: <tentec@contesting.com> Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 12:23 AM Subject: [TenTec] Jupiter vs Omni VI Several years ago I bought a new Jupiter. Before I bought it the people atTT told me that it would not measure up to an Omni VI If I wanted to use itfor contesting. They were right. It is not a CW contest rig for serious contesting. That does not mean that it is not a good rig. New, these tworadios are in different price range, so it is not a fair direct comparason.I prefer the crystal filters in my Corsair II and the Omni VI+ that I boughtafter I sold the Jupiter. For SSB it may be just fine. I think that the Jupiter has the best receieveaudio of any radio that I have used on SSB. Also WSM would to come in here on sat night and sound great. For the casual operator that does not require a top end rig, I think that itis probably one of the best buys out there. The Jupiter now is the backup rig for the YL to her Omni V. So it did not govery far. You will not go wrong with either one. Also for the Jupiter there is no extra filters to buy. 73 Paul K9OT -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
