I haven't played with the NR much on SSB, but I do notice some bandwidth reduction, but the DE is still there. I does help on CW if you get the RF gain set right.

Hi Ron,

What you described is the way I have been using the v2.xxx NR since day one
(rcv'd OII 12/29/05). Changing the NR value seems to adjust the amount of
expansion, and with the rf gain, the user can set the threshold. And I find it helps a lot. Also with SSB, but not as much for obvious reasons. Is this also
your impression?

You are right about that Lin. From what I can hear using the NR (2.032)
Downward Expansion is an effective feature that makes CW easier to copy if
the threshold is set just below the desired signal. The way to test it
would be to measure the difference between the noise levels with the tone
turned off, as it would be between dits and dahs.
