Boy oh boy so many serial ports! my reason for at least 4 serial ports is having 2 Orions. LOGic8 (logging program) supports 4 radios. two serial ports are set to read the radios. the other two are used for CW keying. with LOGic one click with the mouse changes the active radio which also switches the active serial ports. now to build a bandpass filter or two to protect the standby radio! one radio is connected to the 20-10 meter T8; the other, to the 40 meter inverted vee. i may add an 80 to the same coax some day again.

off to work ...73 Steve

Hi Jack -
Another option (similar to your computer store find) for anyone looking to
add serial ports is to look for a multi-port RS-232 PCI card like the type
made by MOXA or COMTROL. They have 4 port and 8 port PCI cards that can be bought on the used market pretty reasonable, as people move toward USB based serial devices. I use a 4 port PCI card and now have a total of six DB-9 RS-
232 serial COM ports in my desktop.

after doing much checking as to USB to Serial, i took the suggestion
that i add a PCI serial port card to my desktop. today i found a
small computer store that actually had a PCI I/O card with two
serial ports and a parallel port. i just installed the card and
drivers. now my desktop has 4 serial ports and 2 parallel ports. all
for a few moments and $30.15. simple is the word for desktops if one
has the slot available. finding the card is more difficult than
installation by far. jack ak7o
