Sounds just like my Corsair II was when I got it. The tuning was most
difficult at the lower frequencies in a band. That's because the screw
loading spring is more compressed with the slug deeper in the coil. In
my case when I opened up the PTO to install a rebuilding kit, I found
the outer race for the ball reduction had a groove worn in it and that
took the pressure off the balls so they slipped and there was also end
play in the screw shaft because of that wear. Installing the PTO kit
(took about three hours) from Tentec cured all those problems. New parts
came to replace the worn ones.
