Don -

Further investigation shows that all three wires - brown, white, red - go to connector D on the logic board.

I put a 4.7K resistor between the brown and purple wires. It made no change in the keyer speed. The range remained 10-61 wpm. Also tried it between the white and the brown and between the white and the purple. Again, no change.

Wonder what I'm missing?

A 10-turn pot may be too long for the space - about 1 1/8" behind the panel.

Try a 5K 1/8 Watt resistor across the two outer lugs on the pot itself. This should stretch the range of the knob.

Another and better way is to just use a 10-turn 10K pot. Just substitute it for the original. It won't disturb the resistor value with an added parallel resistor across the outer lugs will. I have a Bourns 10-turn and from the wiring indication on it, you should be able to rewire it the same as the original panel pot.
Hope this helps you.
