Could it be the PTT going out of lock momentarily? That makes a kind of "blurp" sound.
In my case it was limited to a single band.

Of course you want to like what you hear. At this point, since you don't
like it, I think you should be looking for a way to find out what it
really is doing. If you have determined there is not a frequency change,
then there must be something about the shape of the amplitude envelope
that is not right. I think you should find an oscilloscope and look at
the envelope. Then if changes you make to the rig improve what you hear,
you'll be able to tell us what the difference is.
