Jim, re Ford Explorer noise, get with your dealer, and/or find the 
regional rep.  The dealer/tech rep, should have a record of Ford tech 
bulletins on RFI filters for their trucks and vans.  This was one of the 
vehicles that needed a ferrite and a capacitor bypass on each DC lead 
leaving the fuel tank pump.  Also, you need to provide wide strap ground 
for the hood, and ground radio to the frame or pan via the heavy power 
leads you run direct to the battery.
