There is a place to access the fuel pump cable about 2 feet to the rear
of the tank. The harness has a connector on the inside driver's side
frame rail near the spare tire. You only have to drop the spare tire to
reach it, not the tank. To avoid dropping the tank, some guys remove
the rear seat and cut an access hole in the floor directly above the
fuel pump. You can fine details on the Explorer Forum.
