Steve,
I have found that trying to run realtime devices in a virtual world
rather disappointing.. There will always be some latency running under
a virtual, since you are running one OS inside another.. The
VNC/Skype combo is about as close to actual Realtime as you can get.. I
like running the Skype over RIP in OnePlug..

In fact, the whole point of One Plug is you don't
need a "local" computer at all, no matter what software
it is (not) running.
I think the best answer in the long run is to dig into
the networking code in VirtualBox and see if I can
figure out why it is so slow. If I have to, I can run
XP in a virtual machine; that's not ideal, but it's
better than nothing if I can get the networking to
have less latency.

One-Plug will not run natively under Linux.. But one solution if you
just have to run Linux, is to run one of the VNC versions , UltraVNC,
RealVNC, etc and Skype for audio. This will allow you to take
control of your local computer that is running Windows, (maybe Carl's,
N4PY SW) and Skype to push the audio back out to the Linux box..
About the best you can do for now..

Thanks, Carl. Two out of three!
I just really don't want to have to run
a Windows laptop just for this purpose.
I really thought virtual machine hosting
of an XP system under Linux might do it
but the networking is way too slow.
If I get really motivated, it's probably easier
to do something about the networking than
start over writing the whole thing.
I don't suppose you have nothing better to
do than port yours to Linux, eh?

N4PY software is not available under Linux. But it does handle the audio
both ways and connects via an IP address.

I wasn't aware that it was
1. Available under Linux
2. Capable of handling the audio both ways
3. Connecting via IP rather than serial
I guess I'll have to check it out.

Have you tried N4Py's software? Runs the rig... runs

two out of three are true.

Thanks, Jack, but the software I'm interested in is much
more than logging. One Plug actually becomes the radio,
