I think with the dsp doing detection and filtering that there should be two independent AGC loops. One in hardware to keep from overloading the A/D converter input, and a second at audio to keep the audio level constant. The second one should be after the notch, so that a notched strong signal doesn't control the audio output, just the signals getting to the speaker or cans should be controlling.

Sounds like the fine resolution tuning knob works badly for memory selection and the raw binary data should be right shifted several bits to drastically reduce its resolution when switching memories. One line of code in the assembler program, maybe two depending on the processor.

I have actually been using 2.041XL since it came out but have noted the
anomalies N6IE has noted before. I thought the waterfall was a good
feature. Still a rare occasional red screen. I never used AF AGC so I
won't miss it. I think it was implemented so that the notch would be in the
AGC loop, but in my opinion the notch really should have been done at IF
ahead of the product detection and AGC detection stages of processing. The
audio on my radio is still exceptional, both Tx and Rx, and the main
receiver is great. I use it with Ham Radio Deluxe and DM-780 on MARS and
occasional ham band use.

One thing that may have not been mentioned: When doing a memory recall
(hitting the recall button), the Multi knob sensitivity is way too high, it
goes through the memories much too quickly (that is you have to just barely
nudge the knob to increment a memory and sometimes it skips). Maybe slow it
down a bit?
