I very much agree with the usefulness of the knob I wish the knob worked with a clicking motion , each time the knob would move you would feel a click or stop which tells you have achieved one more step in that direction . I don't use the memories because of this over sensitive inaccurate knob . And I vote for the waterfall I used it all the time . I have actually been using 2.041XL since it came out but have noted the
anomalies N6IE has noted before. I thought the waterfall was a good
feature. Still a rare occasional red screen. I never used AF AGC so I
won't miss it. I think it was implemented so that the notch would be in the
AGC loop, but in my opinion the notch really should have been done at IF
ahead of the product detection and AGC detection stages of processing. The
audio on my radio is still exceptional, both Tx and Rx, and the main
receiver is great. I use it with Ham Radio Deluxe and DM-780 on MARS and
occasional ham band use.

One thing that may have not been mentioned: When doing a memory recall
(hitting the recall button), the Multi knob sensitivity is way too high, it goes through the memories much too quickly (that is you have to just barely nudge the knob to increment a memory and sometimes it skips). Maybe slow it
down a bit?

In an effort to keep our customers up to date, I am reporting the
status for the Orion II firmware as to today's date.

Due to the time it would take to resolve all of the issues found by
internal testing and by beta testing in the 2.042 base firmware, we
decided to revert back to the previous release 2.039D, and make
improvements to it as requested by our customers. This release is now
in beta test, and will undergo a few modifications again early next
week.

This release will not contain the changes for AF AGC nor will it
contain the waterfall display. The combination of these two items
caused a large number of issues within the beta firmware of the 2.041
and 2.042 releases. Therefore we decided to hold off on releasing
those two features to the public. In the meantime we have combined our
internal problem tracking and improvement opportunities as identified
by others, even as late as this week, and generate a new beta based on
2.039D.

Pending beta testing inputs this weekend, we will determine what our
next course of action for this release will be.

We appreciate everyone's patience, as we are dedicated to providing
quality firmware updates for our customers.

Thanks,
TenTec Engineering
John Henry
