The new rx366 board is simply a replacement board for the existing sub-receiver board. It is a very easy field replacement. It will require the new orion version 3 firmware. There are 3 roofing filter slots in this receiver and it does have a switchable preamp. It will be available for both the Orion and Orion II.

Have a look/listen under "Max SubRx: Diversity& SO2V" on n1eu.com to
learn the benefit of a good subreceiver. The original Orion
subreceiver will get the job done in most cases, but a few of its
faults off the top of my head that the RX366 will address:

1. tends to fold when the band is crowded with strong signals,
especially on the low bands
2. when used for diversity reception, many Orion owners report issues
with the two receivers locking to the same frequency
3. preamp is not switchable

Also, I could be wrong, but I'd bet the RX366 will be user installable.

Why would anyone want a good second receiver? All I ever use it for is
transmit in split mode! Maybe SO2R in contesting? You would have to send
your Orion 2 back to TT for the refit and it would cost you as much with
labor as a new Orion 3 with it built in. Not a viable solution for THIS HAM
