I got my first Ten-Tec in a trade for a Laptop Computer. Until that point
my only HF rigs were the Heathkit SB-101 that I built too..... many years
ago,and a Kenwood TS-820. I was told that the Paragon ( 585 ) had some
gremlins in it. After reworking the Major and Minor Loop boards, I still
had one more. With the help of Paul Clinton at Ten-Tec, and after he had
sent me the two diodes that I needed ( Free of Charge ) I was and have been
up and on the air for over two and a half years. I LOVE THIS RADIO ! ... It
is the only Ten-Tec that I have ever operated. The Receiver is Amazing with
the 1.8 filter. And my only thoughts are, what are the New Ten-Tec's like?
I have a $ 50.00 Laptop Computer invested in this one. My Paragon is not
for sale. Being on Social Security Disability, money is always tight. There
would be no way to get a better radio with the proceeds from a sale or
trade. Yes, I fire the old Heathkit up now and then. Got a chance at Field
Day to operate Yaesu's Latest and Greatest. I will stay with the Paragon.
Maybe, some day if, I live long enough a deal on an Eagle or OrionII will
come along. Ten-Tec service is Legendary, Paul Clinton will bend over
backwards to help a fellow Ham out. Why would I want anything accept a
Ten-Tec? Come by and Check In to the Tennessee Phone Net some Wednesday
night. 6:30 PM Central. Me and the Paragon will be taking Check In's .... I
will bet you can't tell the difference between my station and a $ 5000.00
radio ! Well, that's my story and I am sticking to it.
