Did you try adding a character before your call? If so, what was the
result? Did it chop off that chracter plus the first element of the "K"?
I susggest your follow Carl's procedure {as follows} to do a full Master
Reset and not just a RAM clear.

I recommend doing a full reset to the Orion.
1) Power off Orion.
2) Power On holding the VFO B LCK button.
3) Continue holding LCK button until the radio says "Battery Failure".
4) Power off Orion.
5) Power on holding "Main RX/TX" button.
6) Continue holding this button until the radio says reset complete.
7) Do not clear any settings when asked to do so.
8) Power the Orion off and back on one more time.

I did the reset several times before audio returned. Same problem. Chops
off first dash. Back to the trusty external keyer.

Another clue regarding a suggested Master Reset is the version of
firmware
being used. I would presume it was downloaded and installed and a Master
Reset was not done. Although not specifically required, I've found the
when changing firmware versions, I prefer to err on the side of "just do
a
Master Reset" and start from scratch.
As you likely know I do a lot of beta testing thus I'm frequently loading
and reloading different versions of firmware. Thus I'm going back to
earlier versions and then to the version under evaluation for several
instances. In doing this, I find it very prudent to always implement a
Master Reset. It gives me a much clearer picture of what I'm
experiencing.
I view this as no different than our computers when we perform a
suggested
or recommended upgrade. We often see the message appear, "It is
necessary
to restart the computer for the changes to take effect".

TK2XN. If the "T" is missing then K2XN would be legally transmitted.
There's a far better cure, and which Ten Tec has used since the Omni A.
The cure is to activate the PTT relay 8-10 msec before sending RF. In
other words, delay RF by 8-10 msec. As I recall, that pre-TX keying
signal
is called the "T-line" in that older gear. In some newer Ten Tec gear
you
have to go in and find it, then bring it out to the rear panel. I think
I
had to do that in my Omni V. The delay is built into many other rigs,
like
the TS-850, FT-1000-series, K2, and K3. In the FT1000-series and the K3,
the delay is adjustable via a menu. In the 850 and K2, it's fixed at
something like 8-10 msec. I've successfully used an 850, MP, and K3 to
key
my Titan, Herc II, and Herc I (long ago sold). And it's even fast enough
to
follow QSK up to about 25 wpm. At faster speeds the CW elements get too
short.
