Sri Ernie, I didn't mean everyone on the list, just those who say the notch
Eagle's filter is worthless and especially those who think an auto notch
filter should work in CW mode.
The days of manual notch filters are over, once we've switched to direct
sampling SDR.
That may sound like a slight disadvantage, but the numerous advantages of
SDR far outweigh it.
On CW, you can have the DSP filter set to 50 Hz or less. With filters that
have 95 dB depth, there's not much need for a manual notch anymore. That
need was yesterday with crystal filters.
In CQWW CW last year I didn't have but about 10 hours to work the contest,
due to family obligations. So I spent the time playing, comparing my $800
SDR transceiver to the Eagle.
I still believe the Eagle to have one of the best receivers going for CW
contesting.
In all cases I found the little SKY-SDR's RX to be as good as the Eagle, as
far as hearing very weak DX stations in near proximity of strong QRM. Its
ergonomics are not as good because it is a tiny little radio, but its
ability to pull stations out of surrounding garbage is excellent. It has no
crystal filters at all. Crystal filters cost $100 apiece, and that price is
increasing with the demand for crystal filters. You can save a bundle and
still get performance if you buy a good SDR rig. And that's the way the
market is going, not backwards.
Ergo, no more manual notch filters.

I do not believe I am "out in right field."
Someone commented that all Ten Tec notch filters are useless. I disagreed.
