Had Rob Sherwood do some work on a r4c for me this spring. It took two months
of finding parts.hihi
But in that time had many conversations with him great man to talk to. Most of
the talk was about SDR who was going to repair the radio when it breaks? Hey
I’m up for a repair say on a Omni VI but probably not on a Omni VII or a Orion
that has cpu or other digital problems.
It’s going to be the factory repair ! That’s who hopefully has the parts.
Cost to repair will be a another thing , just like Ten Tec repair charges
have gone up. I can’t hardly take the the covers off and on in a hour let alone
repair the radio .hihi
Shipping charges : It cost $60.00 each way to send Rob the Drake. It’s a
medium sized radio, a larger radio would cost more . Still part of owning a
radio.
And one last thing 5 years from now how many radio brands will still be in ham
radio ? Icom has sold how many thousands of the 7300 and the price keeps
dropping $1009 with rebates. The 7610 is selling. What will the other brands
bring out to compete with Icom?what ever it is unless it’s as good or better
there sale will dive . There are the loyal brand people just like Chevy Ford
people . That will keep some brands going for awhile . I really think one of
two things will happen manufactures will make even better radios or they will
slowly drop out of Ham Radio because it’s all about the money.
One other thing that Rob Sherwood is full of information! Tried to talk him
in writing a book just his part of ham radio history! He though may through the
ARRL he could do it . Haven’t talked to him lately but I would be one of the
first to order the book . 73’s.
