George:
You are so right!
When I first got on 160, I had a low sloper and no Amplifier. I found out
very
quick that combo didn't cut the mustard.
I have 80 ft of Rohn 45G with a Telrex 20 meter 5el on a 46ft boom, guyed
with
PhilyStrand. I thought thatI could improve my signal by shunt loading the
tower. The combo is a resonate 1/4 wave
at 1830KHz. I couldn't find any exact info on shunt feeding. I scaled an
Omega Match
from an old homebrew 5el 20 meter yagi to 160. I use 2 X 500pf vacuum
variables in the Omega
Match. I have everything near the tower connected to the base. Such as, the
swimming-pool
ground system, sub-division copper plumbing system and my PolyPhaser huge
ground system
and a bunch of radials
I added 160 to my homebrew amplifier, switched it in with vacuum relays.
What a difference! I work most on the first or second call.
I am sorry that I missed you from Willis, I need Willis. I was down with
some health issues.
Doing much better now.
73 Price W0RI near St. Louis. 2 weeks at BY1QH with Merv K9FD in Jan '98 on
160 most of the time.
