It's been many years since I was involved in cable and MATV, but I'm pretty
sure the connector you have is for a .150 inch nominal center insulation OD
and the cable you have is around .180.
That means it will also be too tight on the shield.
If you get the correct connector and strip the cable properly, and fold the
outer shield only back over the packet, the connector will push right on.
When our installers had difficulty with cables like this, usually in cold
weather or with old cable, they dunked the cable end in a jar of thinner. We
never had coring tools, except for hardline cables, so I've never even seen
one.
When we installed connectors we would flood the end with 100% pure silicone
grease. It is available as dielectric tune-up grease at auto parts stores,
even local stores.

using the wrong compression connectors for the job. The connectors I'm
using are Belden Snap-N-Seal SNS1P6U (Red color ring), see picture here

Although the packaging indicates that the connectors will work with RG6
quad shield coax, they don't (at least not with the Commscope RG6 flooded
quad shield PE jacket type of coax I'm using). I called Commscope for a
cross reference on connectors, and they don't recommend any Belden
connectors (I assume because the two companies compete with each other)
and said to use Corning Gilbert GF-UR-6 compression connectors instead. I
also called Belden tech support and they suggested that their SNS1P6QS
(violet ring) connectors should work, which is also what Tom suggested.
So, I've ended up ordering some of both just to be safe, along with a
flaring tool (thanks for the tip Frank) to give my
poor thumbs a much needed break. Thanks again to all that

All you should have to do, besides normal stripping prep, is fold the

The compression pretty much takes a tool to do right, and the stripping
is
easiest with a stripping tool, but the correct connector should push
right
on by hand. You might try dipping the cable end in something like alcohol
or
lacquer thinner to loosen up the flooding goo, if you actually have the
correct connector.
