Water in a microwave keeps the klystrom from burning itself up should the
energy not be used in the subject material. Some people keep a cup of
water in their empty microwave just to preserve the tube should someone
start it without any food in it. If the plastic should melt, then the
water was not necessary, but on the other hand.....
