Notice the instructions mention painting the entire
antenna. Has anyone done this, and if so, with
what? Krylon clear coat, or some such? Maybe
sky blue, or green?
Hi Jim, I have painted a number of antennas. You need to do the following
first assemble it before the painting. Obtain from a specialist
paint supplier an aluminium type etch primer, that stuff dries very quickly
and etches into the surface of the tube and gives the correct
bonding surface. Also from that good paint supplier get a two pack
acrylic paint. It is usually mixed in a 10:1 paint to hardener ratio.
I got mine in a grey colour which suites aluminium. The paint mix has
a mixed 'pot life' of about 2 hours so you can't play around on TT allday!!.
I have had painted antennas here within 500 yards of the sea
and there is no sign of oxidization and the painted surface remains
very durable. The above advice came to me from the British Institute
of protective coatings. 73 Clive GM3POI
