I also had a case recently where the
wiper arm wore off and lost contact
with the pot windings.
Rotor doc told me that MFJ had a bad bunch
of pots, like mine, with very rough windings that
quickly wore down the wiper.
I would replace the entire pot, rather
than using your quick fix, and make
sure the ears on the pot engage the
indentation in the top housing.
