The boom length of a TH7 is 24 feet. The boom length of a C-31XR is 31 feet.

A more rigorous statement (fully defensible as laws of physics) might be:


The maximum achievable gain (not directivity) is a function of physical size, and all other factors being equal, larger physical size means larger gain.


However, such a statement isn't worth much, other than as a general, "there's no substitute for height and size" kind of argument..


John's original statement would be better stated as "In general, longer booms allow designs with more gain, without sacrificing other performance parameters."
