Here, as in Midland Michigan (Homer Township) The tower is the supporting
structure and the mast is not figured as part of that. Zoning requires any
tower over 80 feet be properly engineered. They are willing to accept the
figures in the ROHN catalog as long as you stay *relatively* close to them
for the engineering part.
Thing is, I could have put up a 80 foot tower with the mast extending 30
feet above that with a 21 foot vertical on top of that. To them it's still
an 80 foot structure with the exception of the set back portion. If it
falls, it has to land on your property.
So far I've never had a complaint, nor has any one complained that I know
of.
