...one method to increase longevity of the HDBX48 tower is to mount the
rotor on the tower base section using angle steel and a rotor mounting
plate or direct ly on the concrete pad and run a 2" pipe up the center
of the tower. This isntallation method makes for easy maintenance on
the rotor (no climbing) and removes most if not all the twist moment
forces from the latice tower which is typically the primary reason for
failures of the tower (the revets get loose from all the twisting and
eventually can pop out) next to over loading the tower.
Heavy Duty doesn't mean put as much as you can afford on the top! I've
had several of these towers installed over the past 40 years. Current
tower has been up over 25yrs w/ 3 ele tribander, 11 element 2m, 2m Ringo
Ranger for local and state side VHF/HF. Revets are still tight.
As with any tower, monthly physical inspections are just common sense.
These things aren't trees, you can't plant them and the forget about them.
