OR you do it your self in many areas.  If I hire it done I'd have to hire a
licensed electrician. OTOH I've wired part of my shop, rewired the house
with a new breaker panel increasing the capacity from 60 AMPs (yup, for the
whole house) to 200 AMPs, added circuits, put in a large transfer switch and
associated breaker panel.    I had to get a permit, I had to do it to code,
and satisfy the electrical inspector, but that was it.  It cost $15 for the
permit and I think it was $10, or $15 for each new circuit added.
