They used Lignum Vitae for the blocks on old sailing ships, the ones without
wheels, just multiple holes, for the rigging of the tall ships.
More significantly, lignum vitae was used for prop shaft bearings on
ships. It'd be entirely appropriate for supporting a rotating mast in
amateur service.
