In looking at wind turbine web sites, I did notice one interesting thing that is applicable to ham radio. They often use guyed monopoles that are erected using the "falling derrick" method, with as many as 5 levels of guying. This could be used to make a poor man's Big Bertha. With the guying, the system would be much cheaper in terms of concrete base, bearings, and pole thickness. If there were just an affordable guy ring, this might be practical.
