no, the yaesu does not have a brake, and the motor runs on 12-24vdc. so you
can easily turn it with a single power supply and observe direction out a
window or calibrate an ohm meter on the pot.

Three spring action toggle switches and a home made ohm meter worked fine.
Found the controller a couple of years later in a box of dishes.
